About The HMS Beagle

The HMS Beagle, our Rockwood Windjammer travel trailer, is on a voyage of discovery.

Leaving our home port in Mississauga, Ontario Canada, we will set a course to Homestead, Florida.   From Homestead, the Beagle will head west and make for San Diego, California.  She will then turn north and navigate the western coast of North America as far as Vancouver, British Columbia.  The final leg of the journey will be eastward across Canada and back to port in Mississauga.

Meet the Crew of the HMS Beagle

Captain Fitzroy

Captain R. Fitzroy

(aka Jose Matera)

Our intrepid Captain is the heart and soul of the HMS Beagle.  The Captain must have a knowledge of every facet of the ship. After seeking advice from the crew, the Captain must be able to make the final decision on all matters.  After a long career at the helm of a Bay Street legal practice, our Captain has decided to take charge of the Beagle and ensure its successful passage on this voyage of discovery.  Captain Fitzroy is an urbane and accomplished leader for which the crew is very grateful.

C Darwind

Ship’s Naturalist

C. Darwin

Mr. Darwin is a skilled observer of natural phenomena. His highly developed olfactory senses enable him to seek out all forms of flora and fauna. Although rather young for such an important position on the Beagle, his keen interest in the natural world, gentlemanly qualities and his enthusiasm  recommend him.

Sailing Master Chaffers

Sailing Master E. Chaffers

(aka Kent Gillespie)

The Sailing Master is the navigator of a sailing vessel. This non-commissioned officer has the duty to plot the courses set by the Captain and ensure that the ship is steered accordingly. He must the advise the Captain on any matters of navigation and be able to provide accurate information of the current location of the ship at all times.  Mr. Chaffers has had a long career of providing navigational advice to Captain Fitzroy, for which she is very grateful.
